Moko Tracker

Turning a traveller's biggest fear into a product that works with the phone they already own.

Context

Mokobara, a design-led luggage brand with 36 stores and a large online business. My first physical product.

The problem

Lost luggage is the one moment in a travel brand's customer journey that the brand never controlled. Trackers existed, but they were an accessory, and they made customers choose between the Apple and Android worlds.

The bet

  • Start with the network, not the gadget. In May 2025 Mokobara joined Google's Find Hub launch as one of the first two luggage brands with built-in finding.
  • Answer one customer question, 'will it work with my phone?', with an unconditional yes: the tracker works with both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub, so no brand app to install.
  • Make it disappear: thin enough for a wallet, water-resistant, a battery measured in years, a loud ring when you need it.
  • Launch it like a good digital product: a clear story, a clean page, one call to action. Design help from Vishnu Vadakkoot and Priyal S.

My role

Led the product from the Google partnership to launch, with the design team and hardware partners.

What shipped

Moko Tracker went live on 14 April 2026: a 1.7 mm, IP68 tracker with a five-year battery on Android and three on iOS, sold on mokobara.com.

What happened

Mokobara's first connected product, and a reason for customers to stay in the relationship between suitcases. It closes the loop on the brand's promise, from the shelf to the airport belt.

What it taught me

A physical product gets one build. Everything I know from digital work, launch clearly, listen fast, iterate, has to move upstream into design and testing.

A good opener

Hi Nikhil — I run [brand], roughly [₹ revenue], selling [online / online and in stores]. The problem I'm trying to solve is [repeat rate / stores and web / personalisation / hiring a growth lead]. Would you be open to a 20-minute call?

Fill in the brackets and send it as it is. That is enough for me to say yes or no honestly.
